The most promising indoor positioning technology-UWB

UWB, Bluetooth, RFID, and other indoor positioning technologies are widely used in various fields. UWB indoor positioning technology is developing rapidly, and become one of the most technology in the field of high-precision indoor positioning.

What’s the advantage of UWB technology?

1) 10cm precise positioning

UWB positioning technology is the highest positioning accuracy in the indoor positioning industry at present. Due to positioning algorithms and hardware device, the accuracy of UWB positioning systems developed by different companies may vary slightly.

2) Comprehensive location service function

UWB positioning system not only provides positioning functions, but also expands comprehensive position service functions based on positioning, such as historical track playback, personnel attendance, electronic fences, behavior analysis, intelligent inspections, etc. These service functions based on location data can assist managers in the safety management of the enterprise and can effectively reduce the occurrence of safety accidents.

3) Low power consumption and long working hours

UWB positioning technology uses intermittent pulses to send data. The pulse duration is very short, generally between 0.20ns and 1.5ns. There is a very empty duty factor. The system power consumption can be very low. The power consumption is only a few hundred μW to tens of mW. The power of civilian UWB devices is generally about 1/100 of the power required by traditional mobile phones, and about 1/20 of the power required by Bluetooth devices. Therefore, the battery life of UWB devices has great advantages over traditional wireless devices.

4) Little interference to other devices

As UWB pulse is very narrow and the frequency band is extremely wide, its bandwidth is equivalent to 1,000 TV channels or 30,000 FM broadcast channels, the power density per unit bandwidth is quite low. US FCC certification has imposed strict limits on the transmission power of UWB, and its power density is even lower than the general noise level (for example, lower than the radiation of a laptop computer). Therefore, the impact of UWB positioning technology on other devices is minimal.

5) There are many tags that can work at the same time within 1S, and the capacity is high

The bandwidth used by UWB is above 1GHz, even up to several GHz, so the duration of each UWB signal sent is very short. In layman's terms, we can think of signal communication as the driving of vehicles of different widths, such as bicycles (UWB signals), cars (narrowband signals), and the width of the road is certain (time resources). The narrower the vehicle, the more vehicles can be accommodated on the road, such as When only bicycles are driving on the road and only cars are driving on the road, the capacity of bicycles will be much more than that of cars. Therefore, the UWB system has a large capacity and can accommodate hundreds or thousands of location tags to work at the same time.
